THE BEATITUDES

The cross of the eight beatitudes or the beatitudes is an eight-pointed cross that the Templars used as a key to the construction and decipherment of a secret alphabet, it would also serve as a base symbol for the octagonal layout of the Templar chapels.

Eight-pointed cross, more representative of the Templars although other cavalry orders also used it. It is the eight-pointed cruciform structure – two for each arm of a Greek cross of equal blades – on which, supposedly, a secret alphabet was based that the Templars used to account for and fully and cryptic account of their business transactions and certain confidential messages.

The letters in this alphabet would be represented by angles and points determined by the very structure of the cross and could be read by a medal-shaped module that some knights would carry slope of the neck. There is no doubt that an alphabet of this kind or very similar was used by the lodges of medieval builders.

And that entire walls of sacred constructions, as it is given in one of the exterior walls of the Cathedral of Toledo, show in their stones signs coming, without a reasonable doubt, from these secret graphic alphabets.

The Templar symbolism: Eight more One equal to Nine After the esoteric cross of the Order, The Tau, and of the magical cross, the Patriarchal, the Templars attached special importance to the eight-pointed cross, heraldically called “Cross of the Eight Beatitudes” or “Blessings”, which according to various authors contained in itself the secret alphabet of the Order.

The eight-pointed cross, included in a polygon, will produce an octagon... Thus, the cross would serve as a base symbol for the octagonal layout on the floor of the Templar mystery chapels. On this architectural plane, to the mediating sign of 8, the building knights added the central significance of the cross, the Unity, invisible in the material construction but without which it would not exist.

**The meaning of his eight beatitudes is: **

  1. possessing spiritual contentment.
  2. to live without malice.
  3. mourning sins.
  4. humiliating yourself by being outraged.
  5. to love justice.
  6. be merciful.
  7. be honest and clean of heart.
  8. patiently suffer persecution.
One of the mysteries of the Temple, we can find it on the Paté Cross, perhaps the most famous and identifying cross of the Templars. It is characterized by having the four equal arms, representing the four evangelists, the four seasons, the four elements (land, air, fire and water) and the four cardinal points.

It is also a solar symbol and badge of the Knights of the Temple. It derives from the Celtic Cross and the 8-spoke Crismon and is said to have been received from Pope Eugene III. It is the cross Pate of the Eight Beatitudes, a cross that constitutes a main part of the coat of arms of Riba Roja d’Ebre and that is at the top of the frontis of the entrance portal of the Church of Sant Bartomeu.

The cross of the eight beatitudes or the Beatitudes is one of the most enigmatic secret codes of the Temple, because it closes a cryptogram bearer of one of the keys used to exchange confidential messages, or to fully and cryptically collect their commercial transactions.

This cross was used by the Templars as the key to the construction and decipherment of a secret alphabet. This key was mounted, in turn, on another key of Hebraic origin, which gave birth to a secret alphabet used by the Kabbalists. In addition, the cross served as a base symbol for the octagonal layout of the Templar chapels.
